Hoshi Fugan Dineen is a priest with the Village Zendo Temple (Dotokuji) in Manhattan. In 2009 he founded Hyannis Zendo, an affiliate of Village Zendo located on Cape Cod, MA. Fugan began practicing in the mid-1980s under the guidance of Venerable Thich Nhat Hahn, with whom he ordained as a lay member of the Order of Interbeing. Fugan also undertook long-term residential training in the Kuan Um School of Zen. Fugan took precepts with Enkyo Roshi in 2001 and ordained in 2004. He was shuso in 2008 and received oshō in 2015. Fugan was named hoshi (novice teacher) with Village Zendo in 2018 and received denkai in 2019. In addition to Zen practice, Fugan works as a drummer/percussionist and as an adjunct professor of ethnomusicology at Boston College.
